Our Spanish Department in IH Valladolid has just been approved as an official examination centre for FEDELE DELE examinations (Diplomas de Español como Lengua Extranjera).

DELE are official qualifications that demonstrate that students have reached particular levels of competence and command of the Spanish language, ranging from A1 (Starter level) up to C2 (Superior/Proficiency level). They are issued by the Instituto Cervantes on behalf of the Spanish Ministry of Education. DELE qualifications are the only official diplomas for the Spanish language and are recognized worldwide. making them ideal for gaining promotion in the labour market or for accessing educational institutions.

This is a considerable achievement for our Spanish Department as few schools meet the criteria required to be an official exam centre. This formal recognition is further evidence of the high standards of academic excellence that our Spanish Department maintains.

The IH Valladolid Spanish Department continues to go from strength to strength and is soon to get even bigger and better!

William Ott, Director of IH Valladolid and Santander, announced this week that negotiations are in the final stages to secure larger premises for both the English and Spanish Departments of the IH Academy. “Our Spanish Department has an excellent academic reputation and attracts students from all over the world. If we are to continue to grow this successful part of our Academy we need to upgrade and expand our premises with dedicated spaces for teaching, private study and relaxation”

IH Valladolid Spanish Department currently occupies one of the most coveted sites in the city, a recently restored building overlooking the historic Plaza Mayor right in the heart of Valladolid. The spacious new premises will be located in the same building.

This week I´ve been looking at the reasons students give for taking our Spanish courses.

The main motivator for learning Spanish seems to be “for pleasure”. Students just simply love the Spanish language and culture. In second place comes “for work”, either back in the student´s home country or due to a relocation to Spain. In joint third comes “for tourism” and “for study”.

The reason I like best is “for love”. We get students from all over the world who have met and fallen in love with Spaniards. They take our classes because they want to be able to understand and communicate with their new partner´s family and friends and be better able to appreciate the country from which their loved one comes. A reason straight from the heart! They say 70% of communication is non-verbal. At least we can help with the other 30% for which you may need a little grammar and vocabulary!
